Broadcloth
A fine, closely woven fabric with very fine crosswise ribs made from cotton or cotton/polyester blend.
The soft fabric is usually mercenized and has a firm hand.
In the 1920's, a lightweight shirting fabric from England was dubbed "broadcloth" to distinguish it from poplin, which is heavier.
The term orginally referred to any fabric wider than 27".
