Betweens ~ A short, fine, sharp needle with a small eye. Popular for quilting (#12) and fine lace making. These needles are for detailed handwork, such as fine stitching on heavy fabric. Common sizes are 5 to 12.

Chenille ~ A thick, sharp pointed needle with a large eye suited for embroidery with heavy threads and ribbon. Also referred to as Ribbon Embroidery needles. Needles are similiar to Tapestry needles but have a sharp point for heavy embroidery on closely woven fabric. Common sizes are 18 to 26

Crewel ~ A sharp, medium lenght needle with a large eye for embroidery. Also known as Embroidery Needle. Needles are exactly like sharps, but have a larger eye for easier threading. Common sizes are 1 to 10.

Darner ~ A fine needle with a small eye. They are long needles used for a variety of general sewing needs, as well as geometric smocking.

Long Darners ~ A long, strong needle with a large eye. Good for picture smocking, assembly work. wool darning and workign with heavy threads and fabrics.

Milliners ~ An extra long, narrow, with the same thickness from end to end, and a small eye. Needle from #1 (largest) to #11 (smallest). Also referred to as Straw needle.

Sharps ~ A general purpose medium length sewing needle that is a fine, strong, round-eyed needle. Sharps are medium length needles and are most commonly used for fine embroidery and hand sewing.

Tapestry ~ A heavy large eye needle with a blunt point in sizes 18 to 28. Used for most pull work, duplicate stitch, wool embroidery, and silk ribbon embroidery. Use this needle where separation rather that piercing of thread is desired.
